Rather watch? Here’s my video on this ↓
Hi, my Saltines. Winter is coming. Last week it was in the 70s here, and I thought, I’ll get the holiday lights up while it’s nice. This weekend I woke up and it was 34 degrees. I missed my window. Don’t miss yours.
Do it while the weather is kind
- Hang the lights now. You don’t have to turn them on yet. Just get them up while there’s no wind, rain or ice on the ladder.
- Not doing it yourself? Call whoever helps you now. Handymen, grandkids and neighbors all get busy around the holidays. Get on their list early.
Don’t fall on your own porch
- Buy deicer for the front steps and sidewalk before you need it.
- Know where your snow shovel is. Sometimes you just wake up and boom, the snow is there.
- Think about who can clear your walk if you can’t.
Get your car ready
- Keep water and a few snacks in the car.
- A blanket, gloves and a phone charger.
- An ice scraper. And keep your gas tank from running low.
Celebrate without spending
A lot of people are skipping big holiday spending this year. Maybe they lost a job, or they’re helping someone who did. I fully support that. Your decorations are already in the attic, the basement or the garage, and putting them up is free. Seeing those lights still lifts the spirit.
Stay warm, stay upright, and check on your neighbors when the weather turns.
